RE: Tire Size on '08 2500HD

Just an opinion here but, .. the more I read about this issue, the more glad I am that I have kept mine stock.....uneven ware, rubbing, lift kits, lots more money, refusing to rotate for safety reasons, blow-outs at any minute.. I am reluctant to change the tires because of adverse effects on mileage, because it can change the gearing and lower tow ratings, etc. I didn't buy mine as a show truck to cruise the mall and impress rodeo groupies. I bought it to tow with and it does that very nicely. ..but, again this is just one opinion and I'm good with other opinions as well. 35" tires are not just for show. Last weekend I pulled 3 trucks out of the sand at Pismo with my truck. One guy that was stuck was on the sand in a Tahoe with a flatbed trailered Rhino behind him and got stuck just above the waterline... and the tide was coming in. His trailer was just starting to get wet and nobody was helping the poor devil. Pulled him and his trailer out (hooked together) without issue. No uneven wear, rubbing or blowouts for me and no issues towing our 36' toy hauler. I'm not sure where you are reading there are safety issues around tire rotation. Lots of guys on rv.net are towing with lifted rigs. One trip out to the Dunes here in SoCal during riding season (fall/winter/spring) and you'll see more lifted rigs than you can count.

RE: Non-commercial Class A

I heard that you can't use a lifted truck (don't know why) and the truck has to be rated for the trailer. I passed in Arleta with my 6" lifted 2500HD and 36' toy hauler. The examiner never mentioned anything about the truck or weights.

RE: Vornado Heaters

We have a pair of TVH500 models in our 5er. We run them both on low... one in the main area and one in the master. When on low they're fairly quiet and DW is kicking off blankets when it's below freezing outside. We picked them up for $75 apiece when Sharper Image was going out of business. http://i36.tinypic.com/zn56kw.jpg

RE: Tire Size on '08 2500HD

To go much bigger on tires you'll need to consider a lift. Many of us on this forum tow with lifted rigs with no issues. Rules of thumb: 4" lift will allow for 33" tires 6" lift will allow for 35" tires BFG and Toyo are well respected brands to start looking at. Do you go offroad? Are you open to lifting the truck? Do you have a budget in mind? Suspension Lift + Rims + Tires can add up.

RE: Fuel Rants & Raves - Post 'Em Here!

Decreased demand in the USA has reduced prices a little the last few months, but there's nothing in place to sustain that reduction, and foreign developing nations (China) continue to increase demand. Quite the opposite... Where do you think all of those Chinese-made goods get sold? Right here in the headed-for-recession western world. The oil market is currently pricing in decreased forecasted demand for oil in China based on new developments in the health of the world economy. Why aren't the pipeline bombings, Nigerian gunboats, and 5 billion oil-hungry Chinese driving the price into oblivion now? Nothing has changed with respect to those supposed "causes" put forth by the media outlets but yet the price of oil has been almost cut in half. You have witnessed a speculative bubble just like any other.

RE: Packing it in 12' Garage

I put my rhino with a rear bench seat with three four point harnesses in my hauler with a full size honda 450r behind it. I put the rhino all the way in. Lift the rear and slide the rear all the way to the left as far as it will go, then put the quad in sideways with the front wheel under the rhino and the rear wheel to the outside of the rhino in the space made by sliding it sideways. I do this all by my lonesome and no problems. I even have room for the bbq next to the rhino where the rear wheel of the quad goes. I'd love to see pics if you have them. I have a honda 450r and a 12' garage... would be great to see how a Rhino fits in there.

RE: Fuel Rants & Raves - Post 'Em Here!

Draw your own conclusions from the data but personally I would not be suprised to see $60 oil within 2 years. I posted the above back on page 6 of this thread. With oil closing at $87/barrel today down from a high of $147, it looks like it might not be a full two years to get back to $60 after all. Only $27 to go.

RE: New Airstream toyhauler

One of the guys in my group sold his Airstream to get a toy hauler. He's always missed his Airstream... now he can have both.

RE: SPECIAL DRIVER'S LICENSE FOR CALIFORNIA

Sounds like your examiner was much tougher than mine... mine didn't ask me any questions on the pre-drive test. I would venture to say that most LEOs (and most DMV employees forthat matter) don't know about the new license, but there are posts on this board from folks that have received tickets... expecially at the more frequented toy hauler spots (Pismo, Glamis, etc.). A 3 axle trailer is an easy give-away. Congrats on getting legal.

RE: Advice on our trip to the Imperial Sand Dunes Please...

I have been to Buttercup many times... never seen anyone running across but it's easy to see how it could happen. The rest area would be an easy pick up spot for a waiting car. When the friendlies come through... what type of issues do they cause?

RE: noisy trailsaver hitch.

I called the factory about the same issue. They recommended using a bungee cord to hold the head in place to keep it from knocking around as others are doing here on this thread. They also said it isn't hurting anything... it's just noisy. I'm happy with my TrailerSaver as well. I'd do it again.

RE: Post photos of your toyhauler

My only cool modWe have had it blow right off of the track while towing when the retention snap breaks. Yeah ours came off a few times I also had my pocket door hop off the track on my CrossTerrain... and also when the retention strap broke. Looks like a common issue. Anyone know what the charge is to get it back on the track once the warranty is over?

RE: 08 chevrolet 2500 6 inch lift

Lots of us are towing with lifts. See my profile for my rig. Also, check out this recent thread (click me).

RE: Post photos of your toyhauler

damn stairs anyway, at least they started putting the rear door closer to the back wheel. Looks like Keystone really tried to move the door forward as much as they possibly could. Below is a photo of a 2009 3612DS. The door is even closer to the rear wheels than the CrossTerrain above it. http://www.raptor-rvs.com/lakeshore-rv/productphotos/P5066557.JPG

RE: Richardson's RV center / Cyclone 3210

Both times we walked out totally disgusted by the treatment we received from the staff and management. Obviously we will never go back, and if you can find your trailer somewhere else I would suggest you patronize them instead. I walked out of Richardsons after then insisted on holding the price of the Cyclone I was interested in at MSRP. Did they think I was stupid? Needless to say I bought somewhere else at a fair price. I have no use for greedy dealers.

RE: Non-commercial Class A

Did he make you paralle park? The only three maneuvers we did were: 1. Pull to the right curb along an empty curb and park. There weren't any obstacles and it didn't require any backing. 2. Pull forward and turn right around a single cone making sure the trailer wheels came within 3 feet without hitting the cone. 3. Alley dock - backing into a campsite-like space simulated by four cones. No backing besides the alley dock.

RE: What equipment is needed for Directv RV hookup?

If you are boondocking, you might want to have a cheap compass on hand to figure out the general direction to point the dish. You can get one at Wal Mart for less than $5. If you camp in a park you can get the general direction by looking at another camper's dish. If you camp in the wind, you might want some way to tie down the tripod/dish so it doesn't blow over. A dog tieout stake and a bungee cord will work if you're tripod is on dirt. If you're camping on sand you might want to use a bungee cord and milk jug filled with sand. I also carry a bubble level to make sure my tripod is level because I aim the 5 LNB DirecTV dish. You probably don't need one for the 18"er.

RE: Non-commercial Class A

Got legal with the Non-commercial Class A today. The examiner was in a good mood and with the 100+ degree heat at the Arleta DMV today he didn't want to spend too much time nitpicking my alley dock maneuver. Good to have it in the rear view mirror. Thanks to everyone on here posting their experiences.

RE: Weber Q for a family of 6?

Question: Does the Weber Q take the standard small propane bottles (like the Coleman type used on lanterns)?????? No. The green Coleman type used on lanterns is the 16.4 oz $5 bottle. The Weber Q uses the taller, skinnier, blue 14.1 oz $3 bottles typically used for a propane blow torch. I get mine at Wal Mart, Lowes or Home Depot in the section where they sell blow torches. The green bottle is more widely available but I haven't had an issue getting the blue ones when I need them. There's a picture of the blue bottle here: Link
